Redwood Creek Construction is a growing, family-owned construction company specializing in residential remodels, historic restorations, custom carpentry, and new construction in the Santa Cruz Mountains. We take pride in craftsmanship, problem-solving, and building projects that last.
We are also expanding our in-house milling capabilities and are looking for a motivated Apprentice Carpenter / Sawyer who enjoys working with wood, learning new skills, and being part of a hardworking team. This position offers an opportunity to develop skills in both carpentry and lumber milling, with long-term growth potential within the company. Position Overview
The Apprentice Carpenter / Sawyer will assist with carpentry, milling operations, and general construction tasks across a variety of residential projects. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work, working outdoors, and learning the craft of carpentry and woodworking. You’ll work closely with the General Contractor, Project Manager and crew on job sites throughout Santa Cruz County and the San Lorenzo Valley.
Key Responsibilities
Carpentry & Construction
• Assist with residential carpentry including framing, siding, decking, and finish work
• Support custom woodworking and fabrication tasks
• Assist with demolition, site prep, and jobsite setup
• Maintain a clean and organized jobsite
• Load and transport tools and materials
• Pick up materials and supplies from local vendors
• Communicate regularly with the project manager and team
Milling & Wood Processing
• Assist with milling lumber using sawmill equipment
• Operate chainsaws and other forestry equipment safely
• Help transport, stack, and process lumber
• Assist with equipment setup and operation
• Follow safety protocols and maintain safe work practices
Qualifications
• Previous experience in carpentry, woodworking, construction, or a related trade preferred
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
• Reliable and punctual
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions
• Ability to regularly lift 60 lbs or more
• Able to work safely around power tools and heavy equipment
• Clean driving record and valid driver’s license
• Basic set of hand tools
• Chainsaw experience preferred (or willingness to learn)
• Local candidates from Santa Cruz / San Lorenzo Valley strongly preferred.

• Starting pay: $22/hour (depending on experience)
