- A reputable local restaurateur/hotelier is rumored to be forced out by a couple with no prior lodging experience. The girlfriend of that hotelier, in fact, hooked up with an employee before the couple took over the operation with an infusion of foreign money.
- The company discriminates and retaliates against employees who complain to Human Resources about...wait for it...discrimination and retaliation.
- The HR Mgr accuses employees of "insubordination" and "disrespectful conduct" without offering any evidence despite repeated demands for proof.
- The same HR Mgr points to the hotel manager's Filipino heritage as the reason to condone that manager's unprofessional, unethical, and illegal behavior towards staff. A Human Resources manager actually using racial and ethnic criteria in direct violation of state and federal anti-discrimination and labor laws.
- The hotel (one of two owned by this couple) is an 2-star mess masquerading as a "boutique hotel." It markets its Carmel-by-the-Sea address to charge ridiculous room rates. Guests aren't fooled and frequently complain about the unwarranted prices.
- The rooms have broken and inoperable features.
- The food and beverage staff is comically untrained as a consequence of the manager's inexperience and ineptitude.
- Hotel amenities are eliminated one by one by the inexperienced couple who took over due to the very financial hardships they don't know how to address.
- Guests who complaint about any of this are ridiculed by the manager who shows no understanding or interest in guest relations. But surely the HR manager thinks it's because she's a Filipino and just doesn't have the same compassion and professional attitude that, um, "normal people" do?? Who knows, let's ask her.
