A beautiful example of an early 2000’s Gibson Master Model. These mandolins were built by Gibson to the specs of the original Lloyd Loar signed F-5s of the early ‘20s. The Master Models were the top of the line of Gibson mandolins at the time.
Adirondack spruce top.
Sugar Maple back, sides and neck.
Tone bar braced.
Flat ebony fretboard.
1 1/16” nut
1 17/32” string spacing at saddle.
Waverly tuners.
Oil varnish finish.
Signed by Danny Roberts January 18, 2005.
In original condition. No major blemishes, cracks or damage of any kind other than string scratches on the head stock from string changes. Some hazing in the varnish around the heal cap and areas of the rim on the back. Hazing is typical for this type of varnish when it ages. (note photos) I’ve played two other MMs from this period both had finish hazing.
Moderate fret wear 1st - 5th frets.
It’s not the loudest of the master models I’ve played but it has the most even tone quality across the strings I’ve ever experienced in the 10+ mandolins I’ve owned. Beautiful sound and excellent playability. Very responsive.
OHSC is in good to excellent condition. The central locking latch doesn’t snap shut but the two lever latches work well.
