Plum Head Parakeets are a medium sized very colorful parrot native to the Indian Subcontinent / Sri Lanka. They are about 13-15" inches in total length consisting of a very long thin tail that makes up about 2/3's their body size. As babies to yearlings, they will resemble the female with a pale bluish-purple head with pale yellow collar. As they mature as adults, the males will molt into a bright red/purple head that covers their entire head followed by a black ring and blue highlights. Females will not get the bright colored head and stay similiar to a juvenile bird only enhancing the colors they maintain.
Plum Heads have a very distinctive call different than most birds. They might be considered ok for small homes or apartments. Their average lifespan is about 15-20 years with proper care and husbandry. These birds require larger cages than usual small birds. I recommend nothing smaller than a cage at least 24" to 48" square and 36" to 48" tall to allow proper space for moving. All my birds are in outdoor habitats measuring 48" wide, 48" tall and 60" deep.
All my birds are captive bred. No imported birds. My adults are fed the best diets that include Roudybush Pellets, Conure Seed Mixture, Vegetables and a variety of natural edible flowers.
The individual birds are starting to molt into sub adult colors.
Plum heads reach full sexual maturity at 2-3 years of age.
Will consider possible trades for other SELECT species.
I am not looking for Dogs/Cats
I am not interested in Indian Ringnecks, Rosella's or Green Cheek Conures
I would consider trades for Small African Parrots, Conures ( Not Green cheeks ), Mini Macaws, Asian Parrots or misc uncommon birds. Send me details. Any bird to be considered for trade must be in perfect feather, perfect health and show no signs of health issues. Not looking for old birds either. I test any and all birds prior to coming to my home so your bird must clear a health check.
