The Member Wellness Coordinator promotes and manages MCSIG’s Wellness Program and provides customer service and administrative support to health plan subscribers. The role includes coordinating wellness initiatives and health events, developing promotional materials, supporting members with benefit-related inquiries, resolving coverage and claims issues, and assisting in program planning, reporting, and evaluation. This position is responsible for advancing health outcomes and improving member experiences across MCSIG’s programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Wellness Program Coordination:
• Promote and support MCSIG’s Wellness Program to help reduce healthcare costs for members.
• Develop marketing materials (flyers, brochures, news releases) and maintain wellness webpage content.
• Schedule and coordinate health events such as flu shot clinics, health fairs, screenings, and workshops.
• Manage member participation in wellness incentive programs; track health actions and reimbursements.
• Collaborate with Wellness Ambassadors; maintain communication records and participation reports.
• Attend wellness meetings, support health-related training, and contribute to planning and evaluation.
• Create and distribute educational materials on health promotion and disease prevention.
• Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations relevant to health and wellness.
Member Services & Customer Support:
• Serve as a primary point of contact for members, responding to questions regarding health plan coverage, eligibility, claims, and benefits.
• Advocate for members by helping them navigate plan options and minimize out-of-pocket expenses.
• Investigate and resolve member issues by coordinating with third-party vendors and insurance carriers.
• Access and update databases to research and retrieve information related to member benefits.
• Prepare and maintain records, correspondence, forms, reports, and mailing materials.
• Attend orientations, health fairs, and informational sessions to explain benefits and promote wellness initiatives.
• Answer phones, respond to emails, greet visitors, and provide courteous, efficient customer service.
OTHER DUTIES:
• Translate written materials and provide verbal assistance for non-English speaking subscribers, if qualified.
• Assist other departments with clerical or technical tasks as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
• Required: Graduation from high school.
• Preferred: College-level coursework or a Bachelor’s degree in health education, health promotion, nutrition, physical education, or related field.
• Experience:
- At least three years of experience in health programs, wellness coordination, or health-related administrative roles.
- At least one year of experience in clerical/customer service work involving frequent public contact.
Licenses and Requirements:
• Valid California Class C Driver’s License.
• Some incumbents may be required to read, write, translate, and interpret a second language (e.g., Spanish).
KNOWLEDGE OF:
• Wellness and health promotion strategies; public health topics.
• Nutrition, physical fitness, and disease prevention principles.
• General medical terminology, procedure codes, claims processes, and HIPAA privacy regulations.
• Principles and practices of customer service and public relations.
• Modern office procedures and computer equipment/software.
• Research, report preparation, and data collection methods.
• Project management and budget monitoring.
• Telephone techniques and etiquette.
• Record-keeping and document management systems.
ABILITY TO:
• Coordinate, evaluate, and improve wellness programs and incentive activities.
• Assist in conducting health-related training and orientations.
• Provide accurate and timely customer support on claims, coverage, and health benefits.
• Collect and analyze data; prepare reports; track program success and member participation.
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Remain professional and courteous under pressure; de-escalate concerns.
• Operate computers and software systems to manage data and generate reports.
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing demands.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal staff, members, vendors, and community organizations.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
• Fluency in Spanish (read, write, speak).
• Experience with benefit administration platforms or wellness program software.
• Grant writing experience.
