The Position:

King City is seeking an experienced individual to serve as its Human Resources Manager, who will oversee all personnel functions and report directly to the City Manager. It is an outstanding opportunity for someone who wants to make a difference and be a member of a dedicated leadership team. The Human Resources Manager designs, develops, implements and administers a wide variety of human resources activities, including recruitment and selection, classification, performance management, employee relations activities, workers compensation coordination, compensation and benefits administration, organizational development, training, personnel records, research, project management and other tasks.

The Organization:

King City is a friendly and close-knit community of approximately 14,000 people ideally located in the picturesque southern Salinas Valley of Monterey County. The City operates with a staff of 37 full-time and 57 part-time employees. The City is a full-service city, including provision of Police, Fire, Streets, Wastewater, Recreation, Community Development, Airport and general administration services. Employees are committed to teamwork, organizational values, maintaining a respectful work environment, and working effectively to address the important needs of the community.


Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in human resources, business or public administration, public policy, or a field related to the work and two years of professional experience in a human resources position. Knowledge of basic principles and practices of human resources in a public agency setting; principles and practices related to recruitment, selection, classification and compensation; principles and practices of benefits administration; Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances governing employment practices. Spanish speaking skills are desirable.

• Retirement: PERS 2% @ 55 for Classic PERS members and 2% @ 62 for new PERS members
