1913 Chautauqua Industrial Arts Desk. Scroll and chalk board in good condition but the back panel (which had a removable map) was lost and replaced with a wood panel.
There are 26 beautiful and educational panels on the scroll.
Local Conection: Pacific Grove's Chautauqua Hall was the western headquarters for the Chautauqua Movement established by the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle in 1879. The "desks were seen as a vital tool for developing self-expression, imagination and creativity among youth". per their literature.
A scroll through the panels will show what a valuable tool it was and still is.
