The epicurean. A complete treatise of analytical and practical studies on the culinary art, including table and wine service, how to prepare and cook dishes, etc., and a selection of interesting bills of fare of Delmonico's from 1862 to 1894. It consists of 1183 pages.
This is a very rare book that is much more than a mere cookbook and is highly sought after by antique cookbook collectors. It is a glimpse into the art of fine cooking and table service in the late 19th centruy. Of added interest, the inscription in this book shows the name of Ansel Adam's aunt by marriage "Mrs. Ansel M. Easton" and "Louise A. Easton".
The book is in very good condition considering its age. There is no page containing a copyright date, however, the inscription indicates that it was produced no later than 1911 and likely earlier. It is also "missing" the page that show the portrait of the author Charles Ranhofer (additional pages were added by the author's wife and publisher in newer editions of the book after Charles' death in 1899). The binding is solid and original ribbon markers still retain their blue color.
The book weighs 9.5 lbs. so shipping cost will depend on the delivery service selected, if applicable. ONLY phone call inquiries (no texts) will be responded to. Payment may be made in cash or Zelle.
