I’m selling 27 issues of a revolutionary graphic design magazine from the 1990s.
If you’re a new graphic artist / digital designer who learns best by seeing examples (combined with detailed step-by-step directions) …
If you’re an established graphic artist / digital designer in need of new inspiration and ideas …
If you’re a marketing manager who wants to inspire your team and improve the look and feel of your logo, your website, your supplements, your in-house communications and more …
… then this collection of 27 vintage Before & After magazines is just what you need.
Before & After Magazine is the only magazine devoted to showing how weak graphic designs can be transformed into great designs (via beautifully illustrated, detailed, step-by-step illustrations).
Many of the projects may be from the 1990s (print brochures, print ads, direct mail, etc.), but the concepts, layouts and lessons are as fresh and impactful as ever.
The design methods taught are very Apple-like: very clean, very lean, attention-grabbing, with clear focal points and strong messaging.
The beautifully illustrated articles include lessons such as:
- “How to design motion”
- “Design a photo magazine cover”
- “How to use that typeface”
- “Picture tricks: focal points”
- “Picture your presentation”
- “Lessons from a beautiful website”
- “How to set a text-only logo”
- “Scrapbook-style photos”
- “How to design a small poster”
- “Design a beautiful web header”
- “Design a wrap-around brochure”
- “Design teeny-tiny brochures”
- “Build a picture path”
- “Five web ideas”
- “A small newsletter that reads big”
- “Design a small chart”
- “Eye-catching designs that are based on real life”
- Plus many, many more (each issue typically includes 8 - 10 lessons).
The Before & After Magazine set the design industry on fire in the 1990s and kept on burning through 2012. It was the brainchild of California graphic artist John McWade, who has since retired and closed the magazine.
Legacy graphic artists rave about this magazine.
Printed versions of the magazine are very, very hard to find these days, because most graphic artists wore them out, tore out pages, wrote notes on them and otherwise used them to death.
Nothing beats the look and feel of the actual magazines, and the copies in this collection are in excellent condition. I’m retiring, so it’s time to sell the issues I’ve been keeping so near and dear.
Plus, I’m including a black-and-white photocopied collection of nine additional issues (I was a poor college student and couldn’t afford the magazine, so I photocopied these issues).
Plus, I’m including the book McWade printed in 2010 that is a summary of his design insights. It’s called “How to Design Cool Stuff” and retailed in 2010 for $45. It’s also in excellent condition.
For one price, you get all 27 magazines, the nine black-and-white photocopied issues, and the book.
