The Colleges and University Housing Services (CUHS) is a multi-funded principal organization of the Student Affairs Division at UC Santa Cruz. CUHS provides leadership in the following primary areas; student life programs in ten undergraduate colleges, housing for faculty, staff, students and guests, dining services, and childcare and early education services. Additional programs and services include; student judicial, conference services, catering services, marketing, community rentals and the University Center restaurant and meeting rooms.
CUHS has an annual operating budget of over $70 million that includes a dining operation of $15 million and over 1.5 million square feet of on and off campus facilities. CUHS provides housing and food services to over 7000 undergraduate and graduate students. CUHS has nearly 500 FTE career employees operating in approximately twenty locations. Additionally, the organization employs an annual workforce that averages around 120 limited employees and 860 student employees.
The Position:
Reporting to a Community Safety Officer (CSO) Supervisor, the Substitute Community Safety Officer provides nightly safety and security for residents, employees, families, campus visitors and the facilities of their designated residential work site. The Sub-CSO works as a part of a team that provides service to diverse communities ranging from 600 to 2000 residents and approximately 1000 or more summer conference guests. The Sub-CSO's work only by pre-scheduled hours by the CSO Supervisor and this is a limited appointment.
Qualifications include:
Communication
- Ability to clearly convey concepts and instructions
- Ability to engage in effective communication with diverse individuals and teams

- Experience working with and supporting communities from diverse backgrounds (e.g., ethnic and cultural, socioeconomic, religious, sexual orientation, and gender)
Ethics
- Possess core values and beliefs to act with integrity and honesty
- Ability to maintain high standards of conduct under pressure
