Max is a 1-year-old with enchanting green eyes. He's an energetic, playful cat who loves to chase feather toys and stalk furry toy mice. Max came to us from a local shelter after coming in as a stray. He would love to have indoor/outdoor privileges in his new home so he can explore and climb trees during the day and be safely indoors at night. Max is not fond of dogs, but might get along with another cat after a proper introduction. Because of his high activity level he would do best in an adult home or with a family with teenagers. Samba is a special 12-week-old kitten with a condition called cerebellar hypoplasia. This is something Samba was born with, possibly caused by being exposed to a virus while she was in utero. As a result, Samba has some tremors, and walks with jerky movements. There is no cure for this condition, and it causes her no pain or discomfort. Most cats learn to compensate for their uncontrolled movement as they grow older, and go on to lead full and enjoyable lives. Samba will need a safe, indoor home where she will be loved and protected. Meet Samba at the AFRP Adoption Center, 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove.

Abby is round, cuddly 3-year-old tortoiseshell cat who came to us from the Monterey County Animal Services after coming in as a stray. Shhhh, don't tell Abby she's a little chubby, she just likes to thing she's big-boned! Abby has a happy, friendly personality and loves to be petted and brushed. She can't resist chasing kitty toys, and especially loves kitty fishing pole toys with feathers on the end. Abby would enjoy being a single cat, or can live with other cats after a proper introduction period. We're hoping her new guardian will help her lose some weight in a slow and healthy pace. Vinnie is an adorable 10 pound, 1-year-old tan and white Rat Terrier mix who came to us from the Salinas Animal Services. He's a fun and frisky little guy with a friendly and engaging personality. Vinnie gets along great with the other dogs in his foster home, and though he wants to play with the cats, he respects their wishes when they want to be left alone. Vinnie loves to play in the yard, and jumps and springs like a bunny rabbit. He's very athletic and can balance on his hind legs for a treat. Vinnie is house trained and happily sleeps all night in his crate. He's working on learning basic commands and is very treat motivated. Recently, I posted an ad asking for help with finding an animal rights attorney. I still need help. I am a feral cat colony caregiver. I have taken care of a colony for over 4 years. I can't even tell you the time, and love and devotion that has gone into this. All the cats have been TNR'd at my expense. Last week out of the blue I was threatened and told that they wanted the cats to starve and die. When I asked if I might speak with the owner of the company I was told that "he doesn't speak to the likes of you, he hires people like me to do that".
I have been keeping watch and tolday they locked the cats into an area and have deprived them of food and water and left then to starve for the three day weekend. I have filed a formal complaint with animal control but they cannot do anything until Monday. I have gotten them food and water tonight through the fence. It is really heart breaking, they can't climb out and they are so scared.
If anyone out there in the craigslist community can give me the name of an animal rights attorney and/or a person in the media who might care enough to help me quickly. I would really appreciate it. I would like to organize a public picket of this company too.

Winnie is a 1-year-old calico kitty with a striking black, orange and white patchwork coat. She came to us from the Hollister Animal Shelter after coming in as a stray with a litter of young kittens. Sadly, her kittens were quite ill and none survived. Winnie is hoping to put that sad chapter of her life behind her and make a fresh start. Max is handsome 7-year-old, 18 pound Lhasa Apso. He lost his home when his owners had to move and could not take him along. Max is house trained, great on the leash and loves to go for rides in the car. He's not particularly interested in playing with other dogs, but he is tolerant of other dogs in the home as long as they aren't pushy. Max is a fairly typical Lhasa in that he can be a bit stubborn when you want him to do something he doesn't want to do! He has a dominant personality. For this reason we are looking for an adult-only home for Max, and experience with this breed would be a plus. He is currently in foster care in the Santa Cruz area. Will is a healthy, active 5-year-old orange tabby. Extremely friendly and affectionate, Will wants to make sure he gets some lap time every day! He is very intelligent and inquisitive, and would love a home where he could safely go outside to play and explore a bit during the daytime, and be safely indoors at night. Will is gentle and good with children. He is not particularly fond of other cats, and would do best as a single cat in the home. With one ear that stands up, and one the flops over, Link is adorable! He's a 6-month-old Dachshund/Terrier mix pup who came to us from the Santa Cruz Animal Services in Watsonville. He will probably be a 10-15 pound dog when fully grown. He's a sweetie with lots of puppy energy and a bold personality. He happily sleeps in his crate at night and gets along great with other dogs. Link is a great walking buddy and is a smart little guy who is very treat-motivated and will excel in puppy obedience classes. He seems to really like kids over age 7. Freesia is just as sweet as the flower she was named for. She's a 2-year-old brown tabby who came to us from the Monterey County Animal Services after coming in as a stray. A bit shy upon first meeting, it doesn't take long until she is pushing her little head against your hand to ask for more petting and cheek-rubbing. Freesia likes to explore the nooks and crannies of the cat enclosure at our adoption center, and once she's done playing, she likes to find just the right little spot to curl up for a nap. Mishka has been well trained. She can do all the average dog commands but she does them better. She can be given commands from across the room or right in front of her. She can be given commands silently or orally. She is very smart and has much more potential in the right hands.
Huskies by breed are very adventurous and independent. Mishka has been trained to walk with out pulling on the leash at all. In fact while off leash, I have trained her to always be in the "heel" position, unless given permission to "go play" or "go potty". I can show who ever is interested the commands I use.
She is also crate trained which can be very difficult for some owners.
Mishka is trained to backpack/hike/walk with a backpack and carry items, camping gear, groceries, ect. She loves the idea of the backpack because it means she gets to go for a walk.
Mishka has been an inside/outside dog since we have owned her. She is very active and needs an active family with high energy kids (they can tire each other out) or adults. She loves to go for a run and she has a special running/walking/hiking harness that is hands free for you.
She comes all set up. She has a crate for travel, sleep, and refuge. She has many other extras she wants to bring with her; here is a list of a few.

Bugsy is an adorable 9-week-old kitten with fluffy medium-long fur. He has unusual black and white markings that make him look like he has a mustache and goatee! Bugsy is a friendly, sociable and affectionate little guy who starts to purr the moment you pick him up for a cuddle. Sherman is a lovable senior shepherd/lab mix who came to us from the Monterey County Animal Services. He's about 8-9 years old and is an easygoing, confident guy who is a perfect gentleman with cats and other dogs. With maturity comes impeccable house manners--Sherman is completely house trained and would never chew anything he wasn't supposed to. Sherman has a lot of love to share and If allowed, he will climb into your lap--all 80 pounds of him--for some love and cuddle time. Sherman takes a daily dose of Rimadyl for age-related aches and pains, and will need an adopter willing to take on the responsibilities that come with adopting a senior animal. Tally is a loyal and loving 12-year-old Shiba Inu/Chow mix in need of a loving home. She weighs about 40 pounds and is in very good health. Tally is an indoor dog who enjoys short walks and sniffing at the grass. She gets along with all people and with smaller dogs. Tally rarely barks and is an expert napper. She would be happy living with a retired person, or is also fine alone during the day in a busy person's absence. Tally became very stressed at the arrival of a new baby, and her family feels she would be happier in a home without an infant.
