This is about the injured caT who lost her leg. Probably hit by a car . This is what I am talking about when cats leave your property.

Feral or domesticated, if you are taking care of these pets, we must find a way to keep them home where they are safe. The vet bills

are enormous !! But even if you dont have vet bills, your cat will vanish, and then all the tears and heartbreak. The cat fences are a lot cheaper

than any vet bill or broken heart !! I made my own cat fence from materials from a hardware store when I had my cat. After I put it up on top

of my fence, I watched my cat, and she was about to jump the fence when she saw the mesh barrier on top of fence and I saw
her change

her mind about jumping. After that she never tried to jump the fence again. Believe me, it's a cheap price to save your cat. Get on the web

This darling kitty had to have her leg amputated. Her owner barely gets by and now owes a lot of money for the emergency surgery.

The owner has a heart of gold. She has taken in and cared for many unwanted cats for many years. She (and the cats she cares for) are in danger of becoming homeless now because she has paid a large part of her rent money to the vet and still owes more.

She is trying to sell the antique china and silver left to her by her grandparents to raise enough money. I believe the china came with them from Germany when they left to escape the Nazis.

I have a 5 yr old Boston Terrier that I can not keep because my landlord only allows 1 dog and she found out I have 2. She has asked me to get remove him from the property. So Im asking someone who really loves dogs to take great care of him. He is house trained and loves to sleep in the house. He does not have paperwork but is up to date on all his shots. Next year he will need his rabies shot. I really hate to let him go but if I dont my family and I have to go. I have to keep the dog house for my other dog so you will have to provide one. I adopted a little dog from the Monterey County animal shelter on Hitchcock Road, I believe her adoption fees were $155, that included vaccines, spaying, and micro chipping, it also entiteld us to three free dog training classes that if you attended you received $20 back. The classes were WONDERFUL!

Plus, they gave my little girl, who was a stray and seriously filthy and full of burrs a bath/grooming.

I couldn't be more pleased.

The reason I'm writing this is because the Monterey County SPCA is not the ONLY animal shelter with adoptions in Monterey area. In face, the other two shelters on Hitchcock are only about 5 minutes away from the SPCA

Adoption fees range from $65 to $250 for dogs and $35 to $125 for cats. While the higher end of those fees might seem expensive to some people in our community, here's an explanation of why we feel that this is the best way to help all animals in need.

DIFFERENTIAL ADOPTION FEES

Why do you charge different adoption fees for animals?

A few years ago, The SPCA for Monterey County began charging differential adoption fees for animals in our care. While we don't see any animal as "worth" more than another (they are all equally wonderful in our eyes), we understand that our community sees certain breeds, sizes, and ages as more desirable than others. As much as we love the ten year old lab mix with arthritis, we know that more people will be interested in the litter of tiny adorable terrier puppies.

By charging a reduced adoption fee for the older dog with special needs, we help ensure that he will get a great home when an adopter comes through the door and makes a connection with a pet that most people overlook.

How do differential adoption fees save lives?

Did you know that The SPCA doesn't put time limits on animals in our care? They can stay with us as long as they are happy and doing well in a kennel environment. The $250 adoption for a dog that we know will be adopted within days of entering our shelter subsidizes the care involved in keeping another pet for weeks or months until he finds his special home. And it helps our adopters, too. The guilt sometimes felt when adopting a new kitten and walking past an adult cat can be put to ease by knowing your adoption (and hopefully donation!) helps care for animals still waiting for their forever homes.

Also, with all we put in to each pet � spay/neuter surgery, all vaccinations (now including canine influenza), microchip, health evaluation, behavior evaluation, dentals (if needed), and more � we do not make any profit on our adoptions. It's a wonderful value on a priceless lifelong companion.

My cat vanished two months ago also. I live in Carmel Valley. I let my cat go out at night, but how could I make such a mistake

knowing there are coyotes and other wildlife that kill cats.? My message to all cat owners is that we must keep our cats on our

property no matter what. They make a cat fence for any kind of fence and it is a barrier that keeps your cat from jumping your fence

and leaving the safety of your property. Day or night, your cat cannot jump your fence. This is the only way to keep our cats alive,

other than dont let them out of your house. I meant to get a cat fence because I wanted my cat to be able to experience the outdoors,

but i didnt make sure she was in at night. But a cat outside your property day or night is at terrible risk of vanishing. So please cat

We are looking for a home for our 3 year old, black, gorgeous cat, Kodi. We moved to a neighborhood that is not conducive to having an outdoor cat, and he desperately wants to be outside. An indoor/outdoor situation would be ideal, as he is accustomed to being inside as well. He gets along great with other cats, is neutral with dogs, and is great with our 11 month old. The truth is that all dogs, small or big, need daily exercise.

Walking your dog for about 45 minutes (depending on the breed) in the morning and in the evening will greatly improve his/her life. Many common "bad" behaviors your dog has, can be solved simply and solely by structured exercise.. Think about it, it is in their nature to need to explore, the back yard is not enough! If you don't have enough time, but would like to help your dog be happier and better behaved by getting the walks it needs and deserves, let me know.

I have plenty of experience and a 110 pound dog who hasn't been on a leash for over 2 years to prove it... (even when walking down the middle of the street)! Fee for the walk depends on the amount of time and training you want for your dog. I would also be happy to take YOU through the training process so that you could do the work yourself! It truly can be a good experience, it just takes time and the know-how. I look forward to meeting you and your dog!!

$500 for unpapered pups? Ridiculous. You can go to any Boston Terrier breed rescue and get a purebred Boston for half that, and save a life in the process.

If they are 5 weeks, they cannot legally be sold for another 3 weeks. CA law prevents the sale/transfer of puppies/kittens under 8 wks of age.

If you're truly interested in "good homes", you would not be posting these puppies on craigslist to the first four users with a spare $500 who come along.

I am so sorry for your loss. I too have been through this and it is excruciatingly painful. But there is hope and when the time is right again hopefully you can bring another wonderful pet into your life. There are so many waiting in the shelters, but do it when you are ready. They can help with the healing but only after you have gone through some of the loss. You will know when it is the right time. Also any vet should be able to direct you to a place to have your pet cremated. I think most use the following, but ask your vet.

I went to GA on the 15 of October and two days after i left from here i got a message from my husband telling me my dog was missing. She was there when he went to work that morning but when he came home my do Bullet was gone. She is a pit mix and she is very hyper. she is good around other dogs and people she just jumps a lot. I would really love to have my dog back....she is actully my little girls dog and her and my little girl get a long really well and i would like to continue that bond between them as they both get older! GRANNY BUNNY (Monterey Bay)

Granny is looking for a new home. Granny has some unique qualities that means she needs to go to the perfect home. You see, Granny is completely deaf, she can�t hear a thing, although she does feel the floor vibrate when you walk near her.

Also, Granny is blind in one eye. She can see quite well out of the other eye which she focuses on the direction that the floor vibrations are coming from. Granny is a small black Holland Lop Bunny who is about 7 years old and when she focuses on something her ears will lift up an inch or so.

Granny is definitely a love bunny. She will often crawl into your lap if you sit on the floor with her and will lie still for hours if you rub her head.

Although Granny is very good about being picked up and carried. She needs an adult who can be gentle and move slow so as not to startle her. You can tap the floor to let her know you are there, if she doesn�t already know and you can move your hand slowly in front of her good eye. Once she knows you are there she will run up to you wanting to be pet. She is not shy at all! When she is moved to a new location she will spend several minutes circling and inspecting the room to make sure she knows where everything is at.

If your taking him to an animal shelter to have it done, then they have some phone numbers you can call if you ask them for it. I heard there is also a website on the internet that not only will they cremate and put the ashes into an urn, but also have some of it put into special jewlery. Maybe type up urn jewlery? So here's the deal...

My Ex-girlfriend and I broke up around October last year and she got all crazy and asked for our dog becuase she wanted him and sated that it was a gift from me to her at the time we got it. Thinking that she had good intentions and was in a better position to take him due to my twelve hour shifts at work I reluctantly gave him to her. I soon found out that instead of keeping the little guy, she took him straight to the Monterey Spca and gave him up for adoption! I was pretty bummed, called the SPCA and learned that he had found a new home by the time I found out the news. Now, I'll say this now... I do not wish to have the dog back. I say that because I don't want to seperate him from whoever has loved him going on a year now. I just want to know that he is okay and happy. He is white with black stripes. Stocky looking. Pees when excited or scared (which as a previously abused puppy is often), and pretty laid back. He looks more terrier than chiuahua, by the pound I got him at listed him as a chihuahua. I don't have any pics to post because they were all on my phone and got erased.

If you think this may be your dog, or someone you know may have this dog please just send me an email and let me know he's doing okay... Maybe include a picture?! I'd really appreciate it!

A SCARED horse only gets worse when cornered and pushed around.A pissy horse trying to control the situation ques up real quick when it becomes a different game-when the person is in charge,not the potentially dangerous spoiled horse."

Yes, horses do on occasion get physical with each other. But, if you watch a herd with a confident, calm, assertive leader - these things rarely happen. Only the worst, most obnoxious behaviors warrant physical contact. All my lead mare has to do is give a look, turn her head, shift her weight; and if it's a new horse that's totally clueless, she might go as far as to bite them on the butt. But it usually only goes that far once, and that horse learns to listen to her from then on. The trouble I see with humans deciding that physical corrections work, is that they rarely do it once. Doing these things signal to the horse that you're actually in a weak position, otherwise you would've gotten your point across with far less flurry of activity. So you've set yourself up for lots of mini-battles to see if your position is ready to be taken. I know with the isolation most domestic horses experience these days, established & calm herds can be difficult to find. But search one out, and spend at least a few hours there. You'll learn far more there than you would with just about any trainer.

It's not true that a scared horse always gets worse when pushed around. Many give up, at least temporarily. Some get worse. The thing I like to remember is that there are very few horses that are acting bad just to be "bad". They're usually trained to be that way by humans and bad experiences. Horses are born wanting to get along - they are herd animals after all. Show them what you need from them, in a kind way, give them time and understanding, and the rewards are big. Get physical and shove them around - you might teach them that you can be more mean, but be prepared that either you'll always have these battles, or your horse will learn that humans suck, and they might as well suck it up. Speaking for myself - I like to see happy horses that enjoy human company.

Small, Furry Best friend needs a Home! Dachsund/Terrier mix. (Hollister)

Carl is a Dachsund - Terrier mix with a lot of character. He loves people and is mellow and mature in temperament. Loves to play fetch / keep away and because he's a small dog, can do so indoors which is great for homes with smaller yards or apartments / condos. As you can tell from the pics, he's been spoiled so he prefers to be inside and a part of the family, but will be fine outside if he can sleep in the garage or other covered / secure area at night.

Carl is NOT a yappy dog! He will certainly raise the alarm when someone comes around, but is not one of those dogs that will annoy you or your neighbors. Naturally he is fully house trained and walks pretty well on a leash. Carl is fixed and current on his shots. He weighs roughly 30 pounds.

Carl knows: Sit, Stay, Lay Down and will come when he's called by name. He will also "Walk like a man" to retrieve a Scooby Snack from your hand when held out for him (any treat can be a Scooby Snack). Carl gets along fine with cats and pretty much ignores them. He also gets along with most other small dogs but gets jealous if another animal tries to horn in on his lovin' time. This may produce a growl but NOT a nip.

We hate to lose him, but we lost our house in a foreclosure and couldn't find a rental that would let us keep him. Time ran out and we had to give him up... Fortunately for us and for Carl he was taken in by an organization called Pet Friends in Hollister. They are wonderful people and are taking care of a lot of animals, but it must be absolutely heartbreaking for a people oriented guy like Carl to be kenneled and alone most of the time. Great Small Dog needs new home (Hollister)

Carl is a great pup with loads of character. He loves people and is mellow and mature in temperament. Loves to play fetch and keep away with his stuffed Monkey. We hate to say goodbye to Carl, but we lost our house in a foreclosure and haven't been able to find a rental that will let us keep him. Time is running out and if we can't find a home for him very soon we will have to take him to the pound and pray for the best. I have been around horses since I was a child and have worked on plenty of ranches. So when I hear of a farrier kicking a horse, it is extremely upsetting. If a farrier is hurting a horse in any way he should be brought to light. Please, post the name of this farrier on craigslist so all horse owners who see it will know not to hire this person. I would never want to endanger my horse because this farrier is frustrated or doesn't enjoy his job. Also, please report this man to the SPCA. There is no excuse for his/her actions and hopefully by reporting this person it will scare them straight into being a true professional.

So, please - to the original poster of this topic - report the farrier to the SPCA of Monterey County
& post the name of his farrier and what he did to this horse in the 'pet' section and the 'farm & garden' section

And to anyone who read a previous rant saying that a horse has the ability to 'pay scared', it doesn't. Horses are amazing animals but don't have the brain capacity to decide to pretend to do something to get away. They have a basic fight or flight reaction and when they are not able to get away and are afraid, they will fight, not stand and pretend to look afraid. So please, disregard that garbage.

Anyone who maliciously kicks any animal to make it submissive or for any other reason should be reported immediately to a law enforcement officials so that person can be penalized and fined up to 20,000 dollars or 2 years in jail. Report it and get as much info as you can on the location and living, license plate of the" farrier?"?Maybe we should kick him!!

Oh ,I see-time to quote favorite books about horses.It's pretty hard to beat a horse unless you have a board,shovel,rake,etc.A farrier kicking a horse to make it let air out(holding their breath often precludes a good buck/blowup) or more commonly reposition it's weight back to the side it HAS to stand on in order to get the JOB DONE-is NOT BEATING.Jeez get a job or something... or volunteer with horses.or stick with rabbits,dogs and cats.Lots of good books written about them-fiction and nonfiction.Armchair experts can spend a liftime reading up on topics...

a woman who was very passive, and when I spoke out against what he was doing, penalized her and bullied her and made her

give him an extra 50 dollars because I spoke out and she submitted to him. Talk about a woman with no BALLS.

Also, I think it took a lot of guts and good morals for you to speak up. I commend you. And in response to the post about stud farms, just because something is common practice doesn't mean it is humane or the right way to do something. Remember the Golden Rule, how would you feel if someone wanted to do something to you and even if it was for your own good you still didn't want to do it. Would you like it if they kicked you to accomplish their task. We are all God's creatures.

Let's get real,here.Imagine a 1200-1500 lb animal you must bend over and squat halfway under while you are unbalancing it-with one of it'sfour supports held by you... while you keep YOUR balance at all times,AND perform work that can hurt,maim,cripple,or get YOU hurt,maimed or crippled-at any moment.YOU are in charge of this,not the horse.Now-what means would you have to get 1200-1500 lbs of weight to shift-LIVE WEIGHT mind you-attached to an animal consistently rated in the top ten for causing human deathes-and do it in a manner NOT to freak it out,NOT to get another leg or two off the ground,and NOT to SCARE IT if it is truly SCARED-or,if it is PLAYING SCARED or ACTING NERVOUS in order to hopefully make you and your tools GO AWAY-BLUFFING which is a serious part of horse communication-HOW would YOU get the almost a ton of flesh to position ...so you can do the job?WITH YOUR BODY-not a whip,not a stick,sometimes a chain loopeed around the nose or under the chin if a head is hurling dangerously around- and rest assured the horse ACTING scared that isn't -is often a step removed from cow-kicking or dropping on top of the person under it -unless that person takes charge,let's the fake "I'm scared" routine play... until it is time to end it.
IF the horse was truly scared it would have nutted up infear and gone psycho with getting kicked in the gut.The fact it allowed the farrier to finish the job and nobody got crushed or reared ver on,stomped ,and no tranquilizer was needed tells me the farrier knew exactly what GAME was running by him,and handled it accordingly.Horses know their size is an asset when it comes to pushing buttons,and when they want to get their way ...will pretend to be scared- as a test to- see if they can control the situation.A t that moment,especially when they sneak a kidney bite to the farrier's back OR dance around shaking and refuse to balance on three legs-threatening to fall on top of the farrier to END THE SESSION-the farrier has to assert dominance/ and take control/ and get the attention -100% -of the horse.
I suggest you volunteer to work on a stud farm and hold 30 or more horses while they are getting trimmed and shod per weekend.You will,after about six mos or so,figure out which ones are really scared and need steadying/soothing and which ones are willing to hurt themselves and everyone else in order to get their way.Talking and commenting- unless you are the person holding the horse -is a major no-no in a touchy situation and a good way to make a potentially dangerous situation worse.

Horse owners tell me your opinion: I was a guest at a house in Carmel Valley and the owner had one horse. A horse shoer

arrived to shoe the horse and as I was watching I saw the shoer kick the horse repeatedly in the stomach because the horse

was frightened. I was shocked to see this happen. When I told the man to stop kicking the horse, he turned on me and was

verbally abusive to me. The owner of the horse said nothing and later said i was wrong in speaking out. Horse people, tell me

your opinion.
